Default What happened to GW...

Just came back after a long break from GW, things have changed a lot.

It feels like a single player game, few parties, less chat, lots of people standing about doing and saying nothing.

I have done many missions to catch up, only using henchies, have the missions been made easier, or the henchies been made better, because when I first started it was impossible to do many missions without a well balanced sensible party.

And the game was all about parties and co-operation, now it just seems, well, dead.

Been playing for about 10 days now, never been invited to a party (Well one at UW), and only one other person has spoken to me.

Party search, which is new to me, seems pointless.

I have done UW and FOW many times in the past, now it seems like Assasins rule, and there's not the conventional parties I am used to.

Please tell me l'm wrong, shoot me down in flames, anything for some "human" contact.

Before I go out and buy the expansions............

ppl don't play anymore

they farm.

or titlehunt, get the title as fast as possible with as less efford as possible (ppl offering runs, doing missions for them, doing books for them)

Since the introduction of heroes, PvE grouping has become increasingly rare. The game is 4 years old - so a lot of people know what to do, how to do it and just grab a few NPCs for it.

For human contact, joining a guild is probably the best idea.

Awww, recognizing the flaws in Guild Wars... I've been noticing this [can we swear here? lol] for a while now yet I've only been playing since January of this year.

1. PvE catering more to some professions than others, stereotyping professions or them turning into things they weren't meant for

2. broken skills

3. heros can be manipulated any "way" people see fit (discordway/sabway/etc)

4. game is getting old

I did MANY missions with PUG style though across all main games (haven't played EOTN yet - lost interest after the last main story I did) and not the whole 2+6 heros thing with. It is still possible to PUG, you just need to be on at the right times. Quests on the other hand, FORGET IT.

The pve game was revitalised by the addition of titles and similar and while it does make people still play the game it also made them expect perfection in other players.
They stopped playing for enjoyment and started grinding away to gain titles, failing a mission was no longer an option.
Standardisation of builds and tactics became the normal way to play.

decent parties started becoming hard to find and the newbies had no one to help them get better which made the whole thing worse.

Pugs got worse and the experienced players stuck to guilds or used heroes.

welcome to Guild wars 2009.

There is lots of grouping and activities in my guild, and I'd assume it's the same for other guilds as well. Just find yourself a guild that does things you like and enjoy the ride

By the sounds of it you're not even trying to communicate or get into teams anyway, "Only one person has spoken TO ME" "No parties have INVITED ME" etc etc

I think you'll find if you rely soley on people talking to you and you not talking to them first then you'll find yourself very lonely no matter where you are and that includes real life.

Try and be more social and you'll find people are very willing to talk.

Strange. I find plenty of chit-chat going on in various zones (not just the hub cities, though Maguuma's pretty barren, as always - they really should block off the short walk west from Lion's Arch -> Temple of Ages -> Sanctum Cay), though it's sometimes a bit difficult to carry on conversations amidst the massive amounts of looking-for-team spam. Except in the most isolated of missions (Maguuma again, maybe Echovald/Jade Sea), it shouldn't be hard at all to find a team - just have to take charge, not be *too* picky, and gather together some of the LFT spammers.

Nah I'm a fairly chatty sort of person, just trying to get back into it, a couple of years is a long time to be away from the game, I guess l'm looking for the "conventional" sort of parties, like when the game was fairly new.

I just actually got into a decent party for a mission l had tried with henchies and found too hard, yeah they were good people, and got a guild invite, (I have had several guild invites).

I think the game has changed just through the length of time it's been about, maybe it's a change for the better, maybe not.

Thanks for all the replies people, well appreciated.

GUILD Wars with an emphasis on the word Guild yes I get it and I am thankfully in a great guild and have made some fine friends.
But there is a fundamental weakness in this style of game

for pvp and maybe farming guilds work well but for general pve they do not as each member progresses at different rates and finding a party from your guild to do a specific mission can be quite difficult.

Finding one or two to help you is easy but now everyone is either after a title or going to do pvp
The ability to have fun in pve with other humans is still there but its a little hit and miss.

I think this is why you get people calling for 7 heroes its so they can go have fun in the game without party members going afk, asking for money or they will blow the mission.
Trashing them in towns for various reasons, drawing rude signs on the radar map, or running headlong into mobs and dying every 30 seconds.

Roll on gw2

Keep in mind the game now has 4 games worth of content. Which means people are more spread out then usual. Also, a lot of people are doing the 4th year aniversary content (9 rings and rollerbettle), which means people are pulled away from one area of the game to do another thing.

I would still get some of the expansions. Eye of the North will tie GW1 to GW2 and you get heroes, and Nightfall gets you more heroes and a new world to explore and new skills.

I'm not sure of the very recent update of the Z quests will get more people active and playing together. I have found lately it's been more difficult to recruit people into our guild because it seems like there are more guilds trying to recruit fewer players and I hope the update changes that. While GW might be a dying game there is still A LOT to do and have fun with.

The best thing to do is join a guild that is best suited to what you want to learn and play out of GW. For example do you want to get into the pvp side,or farming,or pve(strictly) etc. Then go and recruit the guilds ask questions (lots) because there are alot of guilds out there and it is easy to end up in one that might not be suited for you. Also there are alot of great guilds out there who do just play for fun and to meet new people. I agree that their are some who take this game way to seriously. Repeat after me it is only a game ..have fun. I have been fortunate to have met some fantastic people while playing who have been very helpful and I have always thanked them for their advice and suggestions. So just know this players like myself are out there playing probably looking for someone to play with too !

Pugging is so obsolete now.
Like a few people said.
Get a good guild, play with them!
I'm going FoW with my guild later, went UW yesterday.
Seriously Guildies are better than any PUG you'll find.

Don't buy the expansions.

My HONEST opinion.

Just wait till GW2. Until that, try to find some other mmorpgs or free online games.

Hi,

Thanks for all the advice in this thread.

I just bought GW Trilogy last week and I am new to the game. I just finished Pre-searing with a level 5 Ranger/Monk.

I'm now looking for a guild to enjoy the game with some people like me. I'm mostly looking for a nice, fun but mature community (quite anoyed with characters with a play on words for their name who won't stop dancing). I don't want to PVP and GvG is not necessary. Just some people to chat with, do some light role playing, enjoy the game.

I find that finding a guild online is not easy. A lot of people are recruiting but they sound like used cars salesmen (My appologies to the used cars salesmen out there).

Would anyone have suggestions of guilds that would fit this description. You can send me a private message.

Also send me a private message if you want to connect sometimes...

I read the policy and this message seems ok but I'm sorry if my question goes against the rules...

Jo??l.

PS: I'm still very enthousiastic about GW

EDIT: I'm very sorry, I see there's a sub forum for "PvE looking for Guild". I still welcome suggestions...
